Best Reviewed Flicker Free 24-25" 1080p IPS/PLS Monitors

Always purchase from retailers with hassle free return and exchange policies.  Read retailers return and exchange policies before buying.

My recommendations are based off of testing more than 60 monitors and reading in-depth reviews from over fifteen reviewers across the realm.  Monitor Review Archive.

Many monitors not found in this thread likely perform well, but it makes more sense to buy well reviewed monitors, and I like having sources to refer to, even though I do not always agree with them.

If a monitor is not mentioned it is because it has not been reviewed properly, been reviewed at all or is mediocre.  All monitors suffer from regular quality control issues: back-light bleeding and pixel issues (dead and stuck pixels).

Recommendations are PWM or Flicker Free:

I do not recommend monitors which use low LED PWM Dimming frequencies since they ruin motion clarity and cause some people to suffer from health issues like head aches and eyestrain.  LED PWM Dimming Side Effects.

<1mm Thin Black Vertical Lines:

An issue shared by a few other 24" 1080p IPS/PLS panels is the presence of <1mm thick vertical black lines which span from top to bottom of the panel when viewing some light colors such as light blue and orange. Despite having gamed on the 24 Envy for dozens of hours and looking at dozens of screen shots I did not notice the lines until the issue was pointed out to me by Magical Chicken here. After noticing the vertical lines they cannot be unseen, however I do not find them to be problematic for my uses (frequent console gaming), but this does not mean that others will notice or not notice the lines; results may vary.

PC Monitors also noticed the vertical black lines on the following monitors:

Best Glossy Monitors

The semi-glossy Dell S2418H (75hz with AMD Free-Sync), almost-glossy/Low Haze coated Dell S2419H*, HP 25er/25es (non-overclock-able 2016 models; they're the same aside from the casing color), 25CW/25XW (2015 models; they're the same aside from the casing color), HP 25f (75hz & AMD Free-Sync) and semi-glossy HP 24 Envy (75hz with AMD Free-Sync) are the best glossy monitors.  The HP 25er/es are slightly more accurate than the CW/F/XW monitors, but the er/es monitors can't overclock, and their contrast, along with the 25-27 CW/XW monitors needs to be turned down to 75 from 80 to get rid of the green tint when viewing light grey shades such as those found in the Lagom White Saturation Test.

The HP 25f offers a few improvements over the older HP 25-27 CW/er/es/XW monitors, those being the inclusion of AMD Free-Sync, a native 75hz refresh rate, properly preset contrast (no need to drop the contrast from 80 to 75), faster pixel response times (Response Time Level 4) and vastly higher maximum brightness which makes the 25f suitable for use in very brightly lit environments.  Overall the 25f is slightly less accurate than the 25er and 25es monitors I tested in 2016, has a less accurate color gamut which prevents it from being able to display some colors as accurately as the older models, and the 25f I tested suffered from very obvious back-light bleed in the bottom left corner.

The Dell S2418H, S2419H and HP 24 Envy use a semi-glossy coating which looks a bit washed out under bright lighting, and is best used with bias lighting, or lights placed behind the display*.  The HP comes with a VESA adapter, and has slightly better image quality (full sRGB color space coverage >99% vs 93-94% for the Dell) than the Dell S2418 and HP 25f.

HP 24 Envy with ceiling light vs HP 24 Envy with bias light (light placed behind the display).  Images are from my Steemit article Display Brightness & Room Lighting: The Importance Of LightYouTube Version.

The Dell S2418H, S2419H and HP 24 Envy suffer from the following issue:

Quote from: PC Monitors
Some models display static interlace patterns, not linked to motion and observed when the monitor is simply displaying a static image as well. Some shades may appear as faint horizontal bands of a slightly lighter and slightly darker version of the intended shade. We did observe static interlace patterns on this model, with some light and medium blue, yellow and orange shades in particular showing this. The horizontal bands were reasonably faint and not everyone would notice or find them bothersome. Curiously, if you reduced the refresh rate to 50Hz they became even more faint. Increasing the refresh rate much beyond 60Hz (refer to a note on ‘overclocking’ in the next section) made these extremely obvious.

Best Matte Monitors

The following are the best matte 1080p IPS and PLS listed in alphabetical order.  It can be hard to determine which monitors are truly superior since not all reviewers provide the colorimeter measurements required to prove which displays are best.  I need to see gamma, RGB Level and color space measurements to truly determine the quality of a monitor since most monitors have 99% similar input lag and overdrive (ghosting or pixel response times) performance.

AOC i2490PXQU
AOC 24V2Q (48-75hz AMD Free-Sync; set gamma to mode 2 to prevent black crush)
AOC 24G2U (144hz with AMD Free-Sync and back-light strobing)
Asus VG259Q (144hz with AMD Free-Sync and back-light strobing/ELMB)
Asus VZ249H (set the overdrive or Trace Free setting to 20 to eliminate overshoot ghosting)
BenQ GW2480T
Dell U2417HA
Dell U2417J
Dell P2419HC
Eizo EV2451
LG 24MP68VQ-P (48-75hz AMD Free-Sync)
iiyama XUB2492HSU-B1
Philips 246E7QDSW
Philips 257E7QDSB
Philips 241B8QJEB
Samsung S24E650PL

In order of best to least best of the best based image quality wise:

Eizo EV2451
Samsung S24E650PL
Philips 257E7QDSB (set Smart Response from Off to Fast for the best gaming or overdrive performance)
Asus VG259Q
AOC 242GU
Philips 241B8QJEB
BenQ GW2480T
Philips 246E7QDSW (better gamma accuracy vs AOC i2490PXQU)
Dell P2419HC
AOC i249PXQU (better RGB levels versus the 246E7, but slight black crush inducing gamma which is too high)
iiyama XUB2492HSU-B1

The AOC 242GU is by far the best for gaming since it uses a 144hz panel with AMD Free-Sync and back-light strobing (MBR).

The VP2458 has excellent image quality, but has very high input lag (26.8ms measured by PRAD) which prevents the VP2458 from being a good for 60hz gaming like most of its competitors, but it's still suitable for very casual gaming.  Lastly, while not noted in the review by PRAD, I suspect that the VP2458 suffers from <1mm thick vertical black lines which span from top to bottom of the panel when viewing some light colors such as light blue and orange since the rest of the four sided fake bezel or frame-less LG AH-IPS panels do.

Acer

Acer RT240Ybmid

Measurements and Review by Belgium Hardware

The RT240Ybmid uses an accurate matte panel which can cover 94% of the sRGB color space out of the box which is a great but not outstanding result, and it has fast pixel response times and mostly accurate color presets aside from the gamma which is a little low.

Acer XV253QPbmiiprzx

Review by =DEAD=

Matte, fully-adjust-able, 1920x1080, 240hz IPS panel with AMD Free-Sync (48-240hz) Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0, 4x USB 3.0 & 3.5mm Audio Out.  The Acer can fully cover the sRGB color space (with very minor over-saturation), has 1000-1100:1 contrast, is very accurate out-of-the-box aside from a very minor blue tine (6700k preset color temperature) and http://=https://4k-monitor.ru/reviews/i_zachem_teper_tn_film_obzor_i_testirovanie_igrovogo_240_gts_ips_monitora_acer_nitro_xv253qxbmiiprzx/#elem-6can be further improved by switching to the sRGB mode.  The Acer has very fast pixel response times with only minor overshoot when the default Normal OD setting is used at 240hz; =DEAD= does not test input lag or 60hz overdrive performance.

The Acer has a noticeably grain and sparkly matte coating when viewing light colors and whites.

AOC

AOC i2473PWY

It has good image quality and competitive pixel response times, but has a 12.6ms delay while the others can be considered delay free.

Review by PC Monitors

AOC PDS241

Measurements and Review by Hardware Info
 Review by Trusted Reviews

Accurate semi-wide gamut matte IPS with only 1x HDMI.

AOC 259 IPS

It has worse image quality than the Acer G257HL and Philips 257E7QDSB, but offers similar gaming performance.

AOC 24V2Q

Review by PC Lab PL
Review by Playwares

Matte 1080p LG AH-IPS with AMD Free-Sync, 75hz, Displayport, HDMI and 3.5mm Audio Out..  The AOC suffers from high preset gamma (>2.53 average out of the box) which causes black crush (loss of detail with dark colors and shades, as well as color and shade dulling), but the gamma can be reduced by setting the Gamma to Mode to for 2.24 average gamma, and the monitor is quite accurate accurate overall.

AOC 24B1

Review by Playwares

Matte 1920x1080 LG AH-IPS with HDMI and VGA, fairly accurate color presets, typical 60hz gaming performance (negligible or <3ms lag and balanced overdrive with no overshoot) and barely average contrast under 800:1.

AOC I2490VXQ

Review by PC Lab PL

Matte, fully adjust-able 1920x1080 IPS with Displayport, HDMI, VGA and 3.5mm Audio In & Out.  The I2490VXQ is quite accurate, but like most 1080p IPS/PLS can not fully cover the sRGB color space, and has less accurate preset gamma than multiple 1080p competitors in the same price range.

AOC 24G2U

Measurements and Review by Belgium Hardware
Review by PC Monitors
Review by Playwares

Matte 1920x1080 144hz, 6 bit +FRC IPS (Panda LC238LF1F IGZO IPS) panel with a fully adjust-able stand, AMD Free-Sync, back-light strobing (MBR), Displayport (G-Sync compatible Free-Sync), 2x HDMI 1.4, 4x USB 3.0, and 3.5mm Audio In & Out.  The AOC is quite accurate, has high contrast (1400-1500:1), but suffers from a minor preset green tint of greys and whites.  The 24G2U has negligible input lag (<4ms measured with the SMT Tool) and very well tuned overdrive when the Overdrive is set to Medium at 60hz and Strong at 144hz.

Asus

Asus VZ249H

Review by Playwares

Set the overdrive (Trace Free) setting to 20 to prevent obvious overshoot ghosting caused by the default setting (Trace Free 60).

Asus VG259Q

Review by PC Lab PL

Fully adjust-able matte 1920x1080 144hz IPS panel with AMD Free-Sync (48-144hz), Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0, 3.5mm Audio In & Out.  The VG259Q has a 1437:1 contrast (30% higher than most AHVA/IPS/PLS) fully cover, as well as slightly over-saturates colors of the HDTV/REC 709 and sRGB (SDR) color spaces, and has accurate color presets overall (default=Game Visual MOBA; accurate preset RGB level measurements by PC Lab PL).  As expected, the Asus has very fast pixel response times with minimal overshoot, even when using the default overdrive (Trace Free 60) setting, and has negligible input lag (9.2ms measured with an oscilloscope by PC Lab PL); more overdrive information required to provide more detailed comparison versus competitors.

BenQ

BenQ GW2480

Review by IT Hardware PL (Set gamma to 4)
Review by Les Numeriques (gamma 1)

Matte 1920x1080 IPS with Displayport, HDMI, VGA and 3.5mm Audio In & Out.  It's fairly accurate but has low sRGB color space coverage compared to the best options, and has high preset gamma which averages around 2.4, but can be improved by changing the Gamma.

BenQ BL2480T

Review by PRAD

Matte 1920x1080 IPS with Displayport, HDMI, VGA and a height adjustable stand.  It's fairly accurate but has high preset gamma which averages around 2.4 and can only cover up to 92% of the sRGB color space which is a bit below average for a budget 1080p IPS/PLS monitor.

BenQ GW2480T

Review by PC Lab PL
Review By Playwares

Matte, fully adjustable 1920x1080 IPS with Displayport, HDMI, VGA and 3.5mm Audio In & Out.  The GW2480T is very accurate and offers excellent 60hz gaming performance (negligible input lag and fast pixel response times without obvious overshoot ghosting) for a 60hz non-TN panel, but can not fully cover the sRGB color space (typical for 24" 1080p IPS/PLS).

BenQ EW2480U

Review by Playwares

Matte, 75hz, 1920x1080 IPS with AMD Free-Sync, 3x HDMI and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The EW2480 has 1400:1 contrast, is fairly accurate, but can not fully cover the sRGB color space like most budget oriented IPS panels.  The EW2480 has negligible input lag (4-6ms measured with the SMT Tool), and fast pixel response times for a non-TN panel when the default AMA High overdrive setting is used.

Dell P2414H

Matte with height adjustable stand and USB ports.

Review by TFT Central
Review by PC Monitors

Dell P2417H

Review by Daywalker
Review by Rtings

Matte with height adjustable stand and USB ports.

Low glow panel with less vibrant and accurate colors than some newer competitors since it can only cover around 90% of the sRGB color space. Owners have also reported that it suffers from obvious overshoot ghosting on certain transitions (purple overshoot on white & grey background), and but Dell is in denial or does not seem interested in the issue according to user interactions with Dell Customer Service on their forums.

Dell S2415H

Glossy.  Review by PC Monitors

Dell U2417J

Matte with height adjustable stand and USB ports.

Review by TFT Central]

Dell U2417HWI

Matte with height adjustable stand and USB ports.

Review by Alexander Gryzhin (=DEAD=)

The HWI uses an 8 bit Samsung LTM238HL01 PLS panel which can only cover 88-90% of the sRGB color space while many of the newer 2016 panels can cover >93-100% of the sRGB color space which means that they can display colors more accurately and vibrantly.

Dell U2417HA

Matte with height adjustable stand and USB ports.

Review by PC Monitors
Review by PRAD
Review by TFT Central

The U2417HA [Samsung LTM238HL04 PLS; not sure about the bit depth since different claims (6 bit +FRC vs 8 bit) exist] has an extended color space and better image quality than most 1080p IPS/PLS along with the 25" panels, LG 24MP68VQ-P and Philips 245C5QHAB, but it uses a PLS panel with a stronger matte coating than competing IPS panels. The unit PRAD and TFT Central (before revision change) both have around a frame of input lag.

Dell S2418H

Semi-glossy (same coating as the HP 24 Envy which looks washed out under bright lighting) with 24-75hz AMD Free-Sync.  Review by Alexander Gryzhin (=DEAD=)

Dell S2419H

Semi-Glossy 6 bit +FRC LG AH-IPS panel with excellent preset color accuracy and gaming performance (balanced overdrive and negligible input lag) for a 60hz AHVA/IPS/PLS panel.  It is not VESA compliant, does not support Free-Sync, and suffers from very obvious interlaced artifacts when overclocked above 60hz (71hz=max without frame skipping):

Dell P2419HC

Fully adjustable matte 1920x1080 LG AH-IPS panel with Displayport, HDMI, USB-C, 2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0.  The P2419HC is very accurate, has high 12000:1 contrast and top tiper 60hz gaming performance for an AHVA/IPS/PLS and TN panel.

HP

HP 25CW

Almost-Glossy. It's the same as the 25XW aside from the back casing.

HP 25XW

Almost-Glossy and overclock-able to 75hz.  Review by NCX (archived version).

HP 25er

Almost Glossy; it's the same as the 25es, but the back of the case is black. Review by NCX

HP 25es

Almost Glossy; it's the same as the 25er, but the back of the case is white.  Review by NCX

HP 24 Envy

Almost-Glossy with native 75hz and AMD Free-Sync.  Review by NCX

The 24 Envy has slightly less accurate preset gamma (2.3 average) than the 25er/es and 27XW, which results very minor black crush of dark colors and shades, and minor over-saturation of some light shades.  The 24 Envy also has slightlyhigher sRGB color space coverage resulting in slightly more vibrant colors than most 1080p IPS/PLS panels after calibration. The 24 Envy does not need to have its contrast reduced from 80 to 75 like the 25-27 CW/er/es/XW. Set the Overdrive (Response Time Setting under Image Control) to Level 2 (Fast).

The coating the 24 Envy uses is also slightly different; the coating is a mix between an almost-glossy and semi-glossy coating.  Under bright lighting the 24 Envy looks a bit washed out compared to the 25-27 CW/er/es/XW monitors, but is also slightly less reflective.

HP 25f

Review by NCX

Fairly accurate 1920x1080 almost-glossy or low haze coated LG AH-IPS with AMD Free-Sync, native 75hz, 2x HDMI and 1x VGA.

The HP 25f offers a few improvements over the older models which are the inclusion of AMD Free-Sync, a native 75hz refresh rate, properly preset contrast (no need to drop the contrast from 80 to 75), faster pixel response times (Response Time Level 4) and vastly higher maximum brightness which makes the 25f suitable for use in very brightly lit environments.  Overall the 25f is slightly less accurate than the 25er and 25es monitors I tested in 2016, has a less accurate color gamut which prevents it from being able to display some colors as accurately as the older models, and the 25f I tested suffered from very obvious back-light bleed in the bottom left corner.

L24i-10

Review by PC Lab PL

Matte 1920x1080 IPS with HDMI, VGA and 3.5mm Audio Out. The L24i-10 is very accurate and has negligible input lag, but has slow pixel response times and like most 21.5-25" IPS/PLS, it can not, but comes very close to fully covering the sRGB color space, though it only slightly under-saturates blues and greens by a few percent.
