Acer VG271Pb

Added the Review by =DEAD= to my Best Reviewed Flicker Free 27" 1080p IPS/PLS Monitors and Best Reviewed Flicker Free 144hz 1080p Monitors buying guides.

Matte 1920x1080 144hz AUO AHVA panel (marketed as IPS) with AMD Free-Sync (48-144hz range). Displayport, VRB (120hz back-light strobing), 2x HDMI 2.0, and 3.5mm Audio Out and a fake border-less or frame-less casing with a perceived black depth decreasing inner black bezel.  The Acer is fairly accurate, but can be improved by selecting the sRGB mode which increases the accuracy as well as reduces the too high preset brightness.


Acer VG271UP

Added the Review by Rtings to my Best Reviewed Flicker Free 144-165hz 1440p Monitors and Best Reviewed Flicker Free 27" 1440p AHVA/IPS/PLS buying guides.

Matte 144hz 2560x1440 10 bit (8 bit +FRC; 10 bit color only supported at 120hz) Innolux IPS panel with AMD Free-Sync (48-144hz), Disaplayport (144hz), 2x HDMI 2.0 (144hz), 4x USB 3.0 and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The Innolux IPS panel can decode HDR, but lacks all features a panel needs to truly display HDR content such as a true wide gamut panel.  The VG271UP is fairly accurate, but not as accurate as the wide gamut panel in the Acer XV272.  The VG271UP has negligible input lag and fast pixel response times without overshoot ghosting, but the Innolux IPS panel in the VG/XV Acer's and Gigabyte AD27QD are not as fast as the 144hz 1440p AHVA panels in competitors like the Acer XF270HU.


Acer Nitro XF252Q

Matte 1920x1080 240hz AUO TN panel with a fully adjustable stand, VRB (back-light strobing), AMD Free-Sync (40-240hz), Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0 (240hz), 4x USB 3.0 and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The Acer is fairly accurate but has high (2.5 average) gamma which causes black crush (loss of detail in dark scenes), though it can be reduced by setting the gamma to 1.8, but doing so sets the gamma slightly too low resulting in slightly washed out colors.  The XF252Q has negligible or extreme low input lag and the fastest pixel response times out of all the monitors TFT Central tested (oscilloscope measurements) which means it is one of the fastest LCD panels in existence, however it does suffer from a tiny bit of overshoot, especially at 60hz.


Acer XN253QX

Matte 1920x1080 240hz AUO TN panel with a fully adjustable stand, ULMB (back-light strobing), Nvidia G-Sync (40-240hz), Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0 (240hz), 4x USB 3.0 and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The Acer is preset to the Standard Mode which is very accurate since it can cover 99% of the sRGB color space, however it does slightly over and under-saturate some colors like most 240hz TN panels, and has slightly flawed gamma since it is slightly too high (2.3 average), but not enough to cause black crush or loss of details in dark scenes.  The Acer has negligible input lag at 240hz (3.26ms measured by PC Monitors with the SMT Tool), as well as top tier and overshoot free overdrive with very fast pixel response times (preset Normal overdrive setting) and nearly as little color streaking and motion blur an LCD can provide without back-light strobing, which the Acer also supports (ULMB) at 120 and 144hz.  The ULMB feature does not work properly at 100hz since it drops back down to 90hz and causes stutter.

Acer Nitro XV272UPBMIIPRZX

Fully adjustable matte 144hz 2560x1440 10 bit (8 bit +FRC) Innolux IPS panel with AMD Free-Sync (48-144hz), Disaplayport (144hz), HDMI 1.4 (70hz), HDMI 2.0 (144hz), 4x USB 3.0 and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The Innolux IPS panel is wide gamut and supports 95% of the DCI-P3 (HDR) color space natively, so the monitor must be set to the sRGB mode to prevent the over-saturation of SDR media (HDTV/REC 709 and sRGB) color.  The XV272 is very accurate out of the box, as well as when set to the sRGB mode which should be used to prevent color over-saturation when not viewing HDR content.  The HDR modes limited dynamic range causes severe black crush or the loss of detail in dark content in games like Resident Evil 7 tested by PRAD.  The XV272UPBMIIPRZX has the same overdrive as the Innolux IPS panel in the VG270UP which means that it is slower than the 144-165hz 1440p AUO AHVA panels.


AOC AG273QCG

Semi-wide gamut, curved, matte 165hz 2560x1440 AUO TN with Nvida G-Sync (30-165hz range), with a fully adjustable stand, Displayport, HDMI and a medium matte coating which is normal for 1440p TN panels.  The AOC has fairly linear gamma and a semi-wide gamut panel which slightly over-saturates colors, but has strong preset green tint (Belgium Hardware) and may come with low contrast (PRAD).


Asus VG278QR

Fully adjustable matte 144hz 1920x1080 AUO TN panel with AMD Free-Sync (48-144hz), Disaplayport (144hz), Duakl-Link DVI (144hz), ELMB (back-light strobing)  HDMI 1.4  and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The VG278QR can only cover 90% of the sRGB color space and suffers from very high and skewed preset gamma which causes severe black crush or the loss of detail in dark scenes, as well as all colors and shades to be far darker than intended.  The VG278QR has very high input lag at 60hz (32.7ms), low input lag (5.7ms) at 165hz, and finely tuned overdrive without overshoot ghosting when the default Trace Free 60 setting is used.


BenQ PD2720U

Matte, fully adjust-able wide gamut 3840x2160 LG AH-IPS with a 14 bit 3D Look Up Table, Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB-C, 2x USB 3.1, 3.5mm Audio Out and a fake border or frame-less bezel with a perceived black depth reducing inner black bezel.  The default M-Book picture mode uses the monitors native wide gamut which vastly over-saturates the color of non-HDR (sRB HDTV/REC709) content while the sRGB mode under-saturates SDR color by 5% when set to the sRGB emulation Picture Mode.  The BenQ SW271 is a better choice since supports hardware calibration (with a compatible colorimeter) and has a better sRGB mode.


Gigabyte Aorus KD25F

Matte 1920x1080 240hz AUO TN panel with a fully adjustable stand, Aim Stablizer (back-light strobing), AMD Free-Sync (40-240hz), Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0 (240hz), 2x USB 3.0 and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The KD25F is very accurate (preset Standard mode), can cover >93.5 of the sRGB color space (but fails to fully cover it as well as both over and under-saturates some colors), has good contrast for a 240hz TN panel (860:1), and has very fast pixel response times with no (Balance overdrive setting) or minimal overshoot and slightly faster pixel response times (Speed overdrive setting), but has high input lag at 60hz (240hz not measured; 19.8ms top screen Leo Bodnar device measurement).


HP OMEN X 25f

Matte 1920x1080 240hz AUO TN panel with a fully adjustable stand, AMD Free-Sync (20-240hz range), Displayport, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0 and 3.5mm Audio Out.  The HP has passable preset color accuracy, but is too red and has slightly to low preset gamma (2.1 average) resulting in it slightly washed out colors along with the slightly low sRGB color coverage, though it is normal for 240hz TN panels to not be ably to fully cover the sRGB color space.  The HP has negligible input lag as well as top tier overdrive with extremely fast pixel response times and almost zero overshoot when the Level 3 Response Time setting is selected.


Philips 329P9H

Matte fully adjustable 3840x2160 LG AH-IPS panel with Displayport In & Out, Gigabyte-LAN port, 2x HDMI 2.0, USB-C 3.1, 4x USB 3.1.  The 329P9H is very accurate, has almost 1400:1 contrast and fast pixel response times with minimal overshoot when the Response Time (overdrive) setting is switched from the preset Off setting to Faster.  PRAD measured a 25ms signal delay which is almost a two frame delay (32ms), which is far too high for competitive 60hz gaming, but is fine for casual gaming and in line with most TV's.


Viewsonic VA2719-2K-SMH

Matte 2560x1440 LG AH-IPS panel with Displayport, 2x HDMI 1.4 and 3.5mm Audio In & Out.  The ViewSonic is fairly accurate out of the box as well as nearly top tier overdrive performance (fast pixel response times without overshoot ghosting) for a 60hz non-TN panel with the overdrive (Response Time setting in the menu) is st to the Advanced mode.  Unfortunately it suffers from a 27.8ms delay versus 10ms typically measured by the Leo Bodnar device when measuring display delay in the middle of the screen.  Subtract 7-8ms to compare middle screen Leo Bodnar measurements to SMT Tool measurements.
